Devotions from our Fellow Golfers

"With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness." (James 3:9, ESV)

Island Green. Your first shot landed on the green. You have 3 yards to putt. You are shooting for Par. You swing and missed. You ended with a 3-putt. How would you react? If you are like most golfers, you would either cuss and/or throw away your putter.

Or as a Christian golfer, you know that cussing and throwing a tantrum (not to mention that expensive putter) really does not really show a Christlike character. Your caddie hears you. And if you are like me, you are most likely playing with your Pastor, so he is also observing you. Regardless of who you are playing with, bad plays and errant balls does not mean bad golfer.

Challenge: As A Christian playing on the fairway with people around you (or even if you play alone and no one is watching), may you always remember to let the Holy Spirit take hold of you and control your tongue.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, remind me that whether I am on the fairway or not, you are with me. Remind me to control my tongue and always walk in step with you. Let me light shine on the fairway that I might bring glory to your name.
